Paying homage to 19th-century sculptures in the Greco-Roman tradition, our interpretation portrays Marianne, the allegorical representation of the French Republic. Crowned with a wreath of oak for strength and laurel for victory, the antiqued bust rises from a base inscribed with the letters RF ( République Française ) flanking the Roman fasces – an emblem of the people’s authority.
